So as of now i have 4 speakers in my 1997 Chrysler Sebring LXI being run by a Sony CDX-GT300. Two 6 by 8 speakers in the front door and two 6 by 9 speakers above the trunk behind the rear seat. What i want to do is splice the speaker wire from my rear speakers and add two more 6 by 9 speakers to go in my trunk. how would you suggest i do this? also will it decrease the quality and power to both sets of speakers?

  1. You wold probably need to get an amp to power them, as for the splicing of wire, I wouldn't do this myself if I have never done it. You may end up ruining all the speakers.

  2. There's no good way to do this without adding a separate amplifier.

If you wire them in parallel, you'll be reducing the total impedance to 2 ohms, and the deck won't tolerate that.

If you wire them in series, you'll be cutting the deck's output power in half, then splitting it between the speakers; so instead of two speakers getting 20 watts each, you'll have four speakers, each getting five watts.

If you want to add more speakers, you need to add an amplifier to power them.
