  1. Sociological imagination refers to the linking of individual experiences to social institutions and history as a whole.  The concept of gender is not simply biologically-based, but comes with a host of expectations of gender roles and expectations as well. For example, traditional Indian women are expected to marry someone through match-making that is carried out by parents. In the US, this would be something unthinkable due to the concept of freedom to choose who your life partner will be.
