  2. It could be that you have ancestors who where part of the Spanish Armarda and were 'shipwrecked' onto Ireland. Just an idea from a book I read once.

    I don't know what Merlos means.

    Ramirez means "Son of Ramon", and Ramon, in turn, is like the Irish Raymond, so it would be "Adam Merlos Raymondson / Raymonds".
