How would one become a FBI Agent?

Im watching Americas Most wanted right now, and it just popped into my head on how they become a FBI Agent.

So does anyone know?

  1. Qualify for their school initially through correspondence.  There probably is a waiting line.  If you have any political friend(s) enlist their help.


  2. The FBI is just like any other job.  You have to meet their qualifications and apply for the job.  You need a college degree, atleast a bachelors.  Your degree can be in any major but certain ones are in higher demand with the FBI, such as Finance/Accounting or Computer Science.

    They usually also want experience, usually with a local police agency for a few years.  You also need to have a pretty clean record and be able to was one of the most detailed background checks you would ever have to take.  As long as you don't have too bad of a criminal past you should be ok.

    If your seriously interested in the FBI, there are career counciling books specific about the FBI.  They have all sorts of tips on things you can do to make yourself a more desirable candidate to become an agent.

  3. It's not an easy process. Thousands and thousands of people apply every year and very few people get in.
