Hi.

Is there any good method to carry a lot of groceries on bike for a short distance from the mall (like ~1km) other than really big backpack?

  1. buy you a bike trailer they hold about 100 pounds before they break and with the right gears you can't tell its back there

  2. Get a carrier that attaches to the bike, like the one's surfers use, with a box made of of aluminium, light and easy to tow.

  3. Get a basket and bike saddlebags. You see lots of touring bikes with them over here.

  4. There are baskets you can attach to the front or the back.

  5. Hello,

I see two options that I know I would prefer over hauling a regular giant back pack all the time which would definitely strain a person's back and neck. I would say like most to get a bike rack that mounts to the bike like some of the Topeak units which can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/s.html?ie=UTF8&nod...

Otherwise if you want to haul a Lot of groceries I would say that a bike trailer is a great solution granted it's made for dogs/pets but it should definitely do the trick of hauling your groceries. Check it out: http://www.discountramps.com/bicycle-pet...

Hope this has helped you and good luck finding a hauling solution for your groceries!

  6. I guess i was to cheap to get a basket so i improvised by two different ways. If i didn't have to many groceries I would just put it in my backpack.

If I had a lot of groceries, I would use plastic bags and hang them from my handle bars. I would even out the weight so I wasn't lopsided. This technique worked well for me because it means I don't have to carry it, but takes some getting used to and you can't go very fast or make sharp turns. Be careful with this one, bags could get caught in front wheel. Use this for short distances, and realitively easy terrain.

  7. Try using a trailer behind the bike. For heavy loads it's much easier than racks or rucksacks.

  8. I lived in Japan for 4 years and baskets were the way of life there. You would put maybe 2 bags in the front basket.. and I have seen bikes there with the back baskets too. Then you just put a couple bags in each hand and put yur hands on the handlebars and go.. It might be a bit wobbly at first but you will get the hang of it!:) Basketed bikes are the thing in Japan.. it is a world of E.T. bikes there.. When you go to park your bike at a bike stop (which are huge) it looks like a sea of black basketed bikes! No joke! They are all the same. Ours are all different shapes, sizes and colors.. It is the contrary in Japan.
