  1. Not sure if you mean hygienically clean or having a cleaned out hard drive.

  2. A re installation of the OS would definetly be a clean computer.  If nothing is on it but the OS it has to be clean.

1Run a HijakThis log and post it on pcpistop.com do what they say to do.

2Use a different, Mozilla based, web browser.  IE has too many openings.  I use Flock because you can resize documents that you want to print.  You know how stuff gets cut off on the right?  You can resize the whole thing so it won't get cut off.  There's a few other reason though.

3Observer your firewall activity.  Does a particular program keep asking for internet access?  And you do not feel it should?

4Get Scotty the WinPatrol dog to protect your registry.

5Download and run, Spyware Blaster.  I'm about to list anti spyware programs next.  While good, they slowed my computer down so i got rid of them.  Too many programs running.  But experiment with them and keep one or two if you wish.  Spybot, EMSI squard, Spy Catcher Express, (Um, I can't think of hte rest.)

    that should be good enough.

Myth: MAC are not immune to viruses.  They are in the same boat with PC.  Linux is suppose to be more stable because it's opensource and people can fix it as much as they want.

  3. A shared laptop will have plenty bacteria and viruses on it.

If you put your finger in your eye you will get the flu.

Or a cold, or possibly pink eye.

If you want details of how bad,  you get a throat culture swab, wipe it all over the keys and send it to the laboratory for culture.  Get their suggestions first for how to do this.

If you wipe your keyboard down with antiseptic like Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, just make sure nothing drips into the keyboard.  Computer should be OFF while doing this.

Don't forget the MOUSE, may be dirtiest of all.

Same for top of desk, stapler, drawer handles.

I would forget the culture, and just do the wipedown.

Remember, squeeze excess moisture out first.  NO DRIPS.

A very light spray with Lysol is an alternative.  The aerosol type can only.

    Let it dry before using.

I have seen people eat doughnuts, chips, chicken and similar while using keyboard.  Those keyboards will be cRawLing with germs.
