Specialize in a sports serving area: physical therapist, conditioning coach, statetician, public relations,media management...et cetera and then apply for an internship position to get your foot in the door.  Many of the greatest coaches were never great players but had great minds to understand the game.  In college, volunteer to have a supporting role collecting anything from stats to shoe washing.  Make the connections, show your smarts, and move on up.
