  1. You need to have experience in international relations and usually be involved in politics/know the president. If you need to ask this question on yahoo answers, chances are you won't make it. but g/l

  2. There are two ways to become a US Ambassador.  The first is to be appointed by the President.  This will probably get you a cushy post in Europe or another friendly country.  Most people who are appointed this way are either friends of the president, former staff members, but more likely, large contributors to their campaigns.

The second way is becomming a career foreign service officer.  You'll have to be in the service for probably at least 20 years before this stage, but you could be a Pricipal Officer at a consulate before that (but not be an ambassador).  This is the hard route, as many foreign service officers never make ambassador, and you have pass the foreign service exam (which is not easy), to even be considered for an entry level job in the service.

Basically, you either have to give a large amount of money to the President, or toil away as an FSO, going from country to country for about 20 years before even being considered.

  3. You have to be appointed by the President . . . so try donating a lot of money to a candidate's campaign.

As an alternative, you can always take the foreign service exam (now online) and try to become a foreign service officer.  You probably won't make it to ambassador (but then again, you just might!!) but you could probably make to the rank of Consular General, which is like the #2 in the embassy.

  4. Be financially independant.

Be a very good friend of the President.

Donate a few million to the President's Campaign.

Have a very rich and very beautiful wife.

    That is a start.
