How would one pronounce the hieroglyphs for "guardian" in ancient Egyptian?

  1. The hieratic language, which was the spoken version of the hieroglyphic picture-writing died out more than 2,000 years ago. All we can do is guess...

    Apparently there were only consonants, no vowels...Scholars have actually used the modern Hungarian language as a model of where to begin to match ancient words, with parallel sounds...

    But today, no one really knows for sure...
