How would reducing human population benefit the global environment?

No, I'm not talking about war or killing anyone.

I'm talking about sensible family planning where we strive for a goal of 1 child per family.

(In 75 years, this would halve the human population to the levels we had in the 1940's).

  1. this isin't a question. you're just preaching

  2. we all would have meaning of life, jobs, education places etc. now there are so many people, many lives are going to waste

  3. love the question, ive done a number of papers for college on urban sprawl

humans pollute and take all the resources from environment, they also kill off other species and destroy habitats...

i like the idea but we could never get it to actually happen.

  4. We would consume fewer resources, take up less space, and pollute less.  In short, our environmental impact would be much smaller.

The problem is that our society is not in the correct mindset right now.  Not too long ago there was a news story about a woman who had an abortion because she didn't want to have a child who would contribute to overpopulation and the consumption of natural resources, etc.  Many people on Y!A mocked and insulted this decision for no good reason.

  5. Yup, but how would you sustain economic growth?  The entire financial structure of the world is built on expanding economies. The world economy would collapse, unless somehow we were able to increase productivity faster than the population shrank.

  6. It would help a lot! I doubt this will happen since people are living longer and teenage pregnancy is at its high.

  7. There would be less demand on resources, and it would be less crowded when the oceans rise and reduce our available land mass.

  8. Humans not good,,,,Resources good
