  1. There are several ways that your card number could have been stolen, some of which have no relation to the site where it was used. There are key stroking scams, phishing scams, or they could have gotten your info from undeleted cookies and temp files on your computer.  It is very unlikely that an individual is responsible. In most cases, these people (often times simply a computer program) are not caught.

There is some fraud protection on debit cards, but not nearly as clear as those on a credit card. This is why it is advisable to only use credit cards online. VISA has a zero liability identity protection that typically transfers to debit cards (if it is a VISA debit card). The problem, however, is that there are very lenient laws on the turnaround time for resolution of this claims. And, while with a credit card they can simply inflate your balance while they “investigate,” with a debit card you are out of your cash.

  2. Anything on your computer could have been hacked.

It can be possible that an employee stole it but not likely.

  3. while you were buying something somewhere someone could be watching you while you were typing it in and while you were typing it in the were "on" there cell phone and was recording it.
