  1. Reconstruction time, railroads in South still pretty torn up by war, so I would say by boat, south of Florida then north to island of Galveston.

  4. You had rail to Galveston by 1868. You had two options:

    1) Land and that was train, horse, or foot. The Train would take about 2-3 weeks. Horese about a month (depending on the horse and how good you could ride one). By foot about 2-4 months (how fast, weather, your age/physical fitness, etc determined this).

    2) Sea - This could take about 2 weeks
