  1. Giddens' structuration theory attempts to explain "structure" as a process rather than as a thing (as Marx or Durkheim did). This is a solution to one of the biggest problems of sociology, how to move from the macro to the micro and vice versa. It allows him to discuss social structures such as social class or race as dynamic and always located in history rather than as static and located outside of history.
