How would the US be today if Spain had succeeded in colonizing the New World?

Sometimes I wonder...if the English, Dutch, French, and who ever else colonized the original 13 colonies wouldn't have done so, but instead the Spanish did, as they did thoughout South America, how would the US be different today? I'm thinking immigrants would get higher paying jobs since the language wouldn't be a problem and stuff. Or would the US even be a world power or just a third world country? Any ideas?

  1. You need at look at the whole historical picture and see how and the different manner in which Spain, England, France and the Netherlands set up their colonies.

The Spanish wanted Gold and Silver where the French, English and Dutch wanted furs.  The English also wanted timber for the building and maintaining of her navy.

Spain wanted conquest and riches.  Raping pillaging and plundering the native peoples   Whereas the Dutch, English and French were upon riches but didn't rape, pillage and plunder.  But used the native peoples to assist in the gathering of riches.   To the credit of the English Crown, King George III supported treaties with the natives, the very treaties that were broken by the Americans at the end of the American Revolution.   Which the rape of the natives once again began.

  2. Todo muy mal.

Colonized people never come out ahead - they see their resources used and their governments corrupted by the colonizers.

  3. um.....?

Spain did colonize half of the middle west of the US to California, they also colonized Mexico and South America.

You can't know your homework if you only go by what is on the Net and what people tell you, Knowing means KNOWING yourself. Un-Refuted.

Do your own work and then you will KNOW.

  4. They did, Mexico.

The big diffference is English, French etc came to the new world to live not to plunder. The spanish did not bring their wives and children with them to settle and live in the new world; it was men that wanted gold and slaves to bring back to Queen Isabel of Spain. The English brought with them the backbone of our consititution, the freedoms we hold precious today.  Mexicans are very proud of their culture but I don't know one that wants the mexican government to replace the american government.

  5. the same as south america but it would be a world be a world power only becaue its size its almost half THE WORLD.

  6. The Spanish did succeed, it was Mexico who failed.  Besides the Spanish didn't really have a lot of interest in the modern day US, because they already had control of tropical gold rich country south of the US border.
