How would the heater core in my 02 Taurus' leak or get clogged

  1. They wear out. Anti Freeze/coolant runs through them, if they crack they leak or if the anti freeze has rarely been changed they can become clogged with gunk and junk.

    Bad thing is this can be a rather expensive repair on some cars, as it requires removing the entire dashboard which means having to unhook the airbags and many other electrical components such as your gages depending on the vehicle.

    Do you know what a radiator in your car looks like? Well picture a much smaller version. Thats what a heater core looks like. A tiny radiator.

  2. over time they corrode and rust, they get clogged up from rust and dirt, if you dont keep the cooling system flushed. when the get corroded, they start to get holes and they leak.

  3. well for 1 you drive down the road it feeling the vibrations of the road in turn causes weekness in the welds 2, the coolant should be flushed out at 45000 miles as per your owners manual and thease things are fragile the aluminum and the welds
