My boyfriend's dad found a big mussel at the pond at a local park. That got me wondering....it's a public park with a manmade pond. How would mussels get in there? They stocked it with fish and the turtles and snakes would naturally migrate there. How would any sort of shellfish get there? Do you think the city would stock the pond with mussels? If so, that's a weird thing to put in there.

  1. a bird could have been carrying it and dropped it in there or maybe ppl put some in there. there really isnt any way of tellin how they got there

  2. They could have stocked them - sometimes stocking freshwater clams or mussles will help clear up the water....

Most likely they got attached to a ducks / goose or other birds leg and when they landed in the pond they came off and began breeding. This is very common.

It's the same way with berry bushes - birds eat the berries and p**p out the seeds as they are flying and then new bushes start springing up in a year or so...

  3. they are brought there by cranes.a bird that walks along the shallows, picking up eggs and even eating them then depositing them later in another pond.they will stick to there legs then get washed of in another place.

  4. they could have been dropped in by a seagull or another bird, when they are small they could stick to them...they land in the local pond and they drop off.

Or the city/town could have put them in the pond to help clean the water....
