  1. I run a differentiated learning environment where the students are arranged by ability during group time. When I do my planning, I make sure that I include different learning styles.

  2. Well i know that know the way the education system is, classrooms are integrated and there are several classrooms with IEP students as well as "normal". It depends on what grade you are teaching really. But in most circumstances you can incorporate all. Discussion is wonderful for students. Ask questions like but give them time to think and answer. You must also explain to for those who do better with lecture. You can also right notes for those who do better with visuals make sure their are grpahs and charts and such. Keep on the move also don't stay at your desk and get the kids to move for kinestetic learners. All these can be done in one lesson. Ability levels are hard when there are so many in one classroom. Kepp your eye out for those who may fall behind but don't baby them  publicly just kind of go back and reiterate what you are saying you dont want to single anyone out but you want to make sure everyone understands. Teachers today have to be very observant due to the restructure of the classrooms.

  3. embrace them!  Work in small ability groups when possible- but not all the time.  I would often have three or four groups working towards the same objective- differently.  I know it takes a lot of planning, but I also had every student in my class reach benchmark in reading and math.

  4. I don't agree that it can't be done even with NCLB. Differentiated lessons just take some planning and flexibility. In my class of 36 students I have 6 Gifted students, and 9 Newcomers (limited - no English) Does everyone learn the same thing at the same time...impossible, I modify work for my EL's, I preteach vocabulary and content for them. I challenge my gifted students with extension activities. I can be done, but like everything it takes a little extra thought, planning and time.

  5. If you are in public schools, you can't. NCLB will make sure of that

  6. differently
