Question:

How would you build the strength you need for breakdancing?

what i mean is what kind of workouts would you do and which muscles are necessary in order to do most of the breakdance moves. thanks for your answers!

  1. Gymnastics training and a good vertical jump would be wise. Doing squats is great but is painful. You will need the arm strength to support your body for short amounts of time, but leg strength and flexibility plus gymnastics training is the best choice.  


  2. Push ups, and do cardio, I wouldn't suggest lifting weights unless your able to take it in school or your 18, you can get hurt, but if you know what your doing go crazy with the weights, just make sure you ask your doctor first.

  3. As a break dancer or Bboy, the main thing is to condition the upper body. The torso is not only your center for balance, but also the source of strength for most moves.

    May I suggest:

    - crunches (including twist varieties to get the obliques)

    - push ups (various ways, two hand, tricep/bicep focus, also do some with hands in fists which will improve wrist strength)

    - headstands (play w/ them, trying staying on your head and moving your body in different directions, helps w/ balance)
