Does anyone know what the going rate for mucking out is? Price doesn't include the cost of bedding, hay etc. It will be a proper muck out, hay net filled and water changed.

  1. I live in the UK and I think you could probably charge £3-£6 per stable depnding on how big it is.  Also, people may want a discount or soemthing if you are doing quite a few at one yard.  If you are looking for more money, you could always offer to turnout. groom and feed horses on people's own land who may not have time.  For this I would suggest £8-£10 for feeding, turning-out, changing rugs and then add on mucking out.  I hope this helps and good luck!

  2. Hi!

I would not give an hourly rate, but pay per box. This means the person will not drag out the time needed.

When the bedding is alreading in good condition and the box has been previously always mucked out thoroughly, I estimate it would take a skilled horseperson about half to three quarters of an hour to do one box properly, including sweeping, hay net and water.

I have 3 boxes of 16, 17.5 and 20 square meters,my barn and muckheap are relatively far from the stables and I need one and a half hours a day, but I do have automatic waterers (a godsend!!!) So I would pay 3 pounds per box per day cash.

    regards and happy skipping out!!

  3. Usually about $10/h.. depending on exactly what you want them to do.

  4. Is this a scat question?!!!

  5. i would charge 10 -20 dollars per hour.

  6. £3 per box is slave labour!

£5.00 is the minimum you should charge but this should include doing the water and sweeping.  Haynets are optional at this price and its up to you.  If its only one horse then throw that in as part of the price.  If its a handful of horses charge an extra £3 for doing the haynets.

Turn out and bringing in and rugging up - also extra to the mucking out as this is all time consuming and time is money.

My lady charges along these lines and I am more than happy with that.  If you are running a car then you must charge for your fuel - so much for work within five miles, so much for work within 10 miles - that is an expected part these days and anyone who wont pay is being a skinflint.

Poo picking a paddock is more difficult to work out.  ÃƒÂ‚£1 a barrow like the other contributor said could work out expensive.  My lady charges £5.00 for half an hour of doing that.

You have to remember if you aint willing to do the job yourself - then you have to pay.  And if you pay peanuts then you get monkeys.

  7. I believe the going rate is £5.50 - £6 an hour.

  8. You don't have enough money to pay me to do that!

  9. well, i get five dollars a stall, which includes getting out all the poo and taking care of any wet spots with deoderizing powder. i also put down some new shavings if they are needed, but all bedding is provided by our barn as part of your board. i also dump, wash out and fill water buckets if they need it. i only feed if i have instructions from someone to do so.

i wouldn't take pay by the hour, because i have gotten the art of mucking down to an efficient science. lol.

  10. at my yard i muck out all 17 of the stables during the holidays. i am only 14. i use bedding that they have already purchased, so i am just charging for my work. we have no water on tap all from water tanks away from stables and the muck heap is in the car park behind the stables.

for a full straw muck out (poo and wet out, fresh straw, water, hay) £4 it usually takes me about 30 mins.

for a deep litter muck out (poo out, sprinkle of fresh straw on top, water, hay) £2  takes about 15-20 mins

    poo picking £1 a barrow.

hope this gives you an idea of the costs = )

  11. About £5 a stable for full muck out, hay up and water change. I live in the North East UK

  12. You will really have to decide an hourly rate or you would be abused by some folk.

  13. my niece mucks out for me on Saturdays, she does a proper muck out, water buckets and puts the bed back down for me and i give her £5.00.
