Imagine if you get lost in a place where you have never been, you don't know anyone & you don't even know their language. How would you communicate with them & get yourself out of there????

  1. This is a logical approach to the situation, but it all depends on where you're lost. If it's a 3rd world country it might be a bit more difficult.

However, the very 1st  thing I'd do is head for the nearest American consulate, then I'd look for someone that spoke English to be able to assist with the communication problem. I would also place a long distance call to my travel agent back home.

Your travel agent can be working on your behalf making arrangements and phone calls. Always use a travel agent when you travel to exotic locations... just for that reason. I've seen many occasions where people that purchased tickets through Expedia, Orbitz or Travelocity can't get any help...and it's impossible to get assistance when you need it. You can't reach a real person...ever.

Then, depending where your lodging, I'd see if the desk clerk could arrange for a car & local driver to get you to the nearest big city. Then I'd head for the airport and get to the nearest metropolitan city.

  2. If in a public place, the first step is to establish some type of communication.  Find a local authority like police.  Try a hotel.  Any place that accommodates tourists will usually have experience with foreign communication.  The next step is to establish your location with respect to where you want to be.  Then make plans on how to accomplish this goal.  You might need to find money.  You might need to get traveling documents like a passport.  You might want to find your local embassy.  When it comes down to it get help.

If you are able to travel and have money, then it's just a matter of learning where you are and how to get where you want to go.  Usually a map comes in handy.  Have a knowledgeable local show you on the map where you are and how to get someplace else.  Learn about border concerns and travel laws.  Again hotels and police are a great resource.  As long as you are polite most are willing to help.

  3. hmmm..interesting question.

i would try to communicate through sign language or drawing. i would try to find someone who speaks my language.

i'd be so scared..that's why i travel with other ppl. i don't think i would be able to travel out of the country by myself.
