1. I agree with KATO quite a bit on this one. But at the same time disagree as well. I still race a 2 stroker just cause I like to be the underdog. Not to say that my bike is slower, but it is becoming the minority. My bike is still stock and in strait line drags I can beat a lot of my buddies on their four strokes unless they have mods done to them and its not a long stretch. I can usually pull the hole shot off the gates over the 4 strokes. Cornering is easier on a four stroke but can be quicker if you know how to really ride a 2 stroke. The reason why teams are going to the 4 stroke is because little tweaks can make more power out them. I have raced both and I am almost to the point of getting a 4 stroke of my own but just haven't given in to it cause its still fun to beat my 4 stroke buddies! :)

 2. A 2 stroke has the power and is a little wild. A 4 stroke doesn't need as much maintenance but if something does tear up, its gonna cost ya a pretty penny. As far as handling on a 4 stroke they are very easy going. A 2 stroke wants to take off and leave you. The maintenance on a 2 stroke is simple and not very expensive. As long as you replace the rings and piston, it will last forever. From my personal experience a 2 stroke is the way to go.

 3. 2 strokes get up and go faster, 4 strokes you don't have to maintain as much. Handling probably the same. Handling basically depends on the weight of the person and the bike.

 4. Two strokes faster revs, more maintnance, poor gas mileage. The four stroke requires less up keep but when it does its more expensive. The four stroke produces better torque and puts the power to the ground better. The four stroke weighs a little more. The four stroke easier to control the power.

 5. kato the only reason the four strokes in the classes you mention are faster is they have 200cc or 125cc more displacement than the two strokes. A 250 2 stroke will smoke a 250 four stroke so no a four stroke is not faster than a two stroke. Only when they have double the displacement in a race class can they beat a two stroke.

 6. Sorry guys but these are pretty sh1ty answers. 2 strokes ARE NOT faster. Jesus Christ, do any of you guys even watch motocross on TV, much less go to a local track?? No one outside of the mini class rides a 2 stroke anymore because you cannot win on them. 2 strokes do not require more maintenance, they require less but only by a litlle. Maintenance is almost the same between the two expect that 4 strokes also require valve adjustment. Where the 4 strokes really shine is getting the power to the ground. Spinning doesn't move you forward and that's what 2 strokes do best when traction is limited, as it often is on an MX track. Also since 4 strokes produce power over a wider part of the RPM range it is not as critical to always be in exactly the correct gear like on a 2 stroke. To me where the 4 stroke really stands out is cornering. They hook up and corner so much better than a 2 stroke it is just ridiculous. Don't take my word for it though. Not one pro motocross team uses a 2 stroke for their factory riders. If that isn't enough to convince you just go to a local race and see how many racers are on 2 strokes. I generally see one or two 125's out of about 30 - 40 entries in the lites class and basically never see a 250 2 stroke in the premium class.
