I think quality and safety go hand-in-hand. But, I'm just trying to get other perspectives.

  1. Quality is doing the right things right and is uniquely defined by each individual.

When something is what you expect it to be then it is perceived as quality.

  2. Quality has to do with a lot more then just safety. I think safety is part of the quality of the design.

But I tend to buy based on quality of the product as it is sold on the market. Will it meet my expectations as far as performance (to me this is a safety issue too, because I want the car to perform in such a way that I survive a crash), longevity and serviceability. This serviceability is becoming a real issue for me. So many manufactures are making it hard (if not impossible) to get service after-market. If it does not meet my expectations it is of low quality.

  3. Quality could be defined as the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail in building or doing something according to prescribed instructions - blueprints, tech manuals, industrial standards and prescribed policies and procedures.

Safety is a combination of intelligence, training, attitude and experience...It is being aware of the proper procedures under all conditions - including emergency - and then following those procedures based on all the factors listed above...Thus, the only time a machine, such as a vehicle is 'safe', is when it is shut off and nobody is in or around it.

    Good question.
