  1. This link should prove highly useful. However, to put it in words perhaps easier to understand, paraphrasing here, the pigments mask the other ones (specific pigment names, two of them, at link) and chlorophyl a but no chlorophyl b as in higher plants of green algae, it relates there. Also no what is considered true starches as seen in embryophytes (modern land plants). They are considered protists. Some are unicellular it says there, but some are very large and even used as food. Beta carotene as found in carrots is mentioned as a nutrient. Ofcourse, I am paraphrasing.


  2. the anatomy and physiology will change species to species.  The difference mainly lies in the pigments.
