  1. A huge maze!

According to the legend of d**k Whittington, the streets of London are paved with gold. =D

That's just a story, but many do still have centuries-old cobblestones just under the top inches of tarmac.

Many of the streets of London date from before the age of the car: they're narrow, winding; they evolved instead of being grid-planned. That's why taxi drivers have always had to study 'the Knowledge' -- to remember every place in the London A-Z map.

There's a lot to see along London's streets as you go by -- iconic landmarks, plus everything from street markets to street protests (truck hauliers blocked roads into London yesterday to protest against the rising cost of fuel.)

They are busy with people pretty much at all hours -- pedestrians and road traffic (which drives on the left).

Love from a Londoner born and bred.

    =D

  2. Having worked there for 33 years I'd say all of the following - depending on the weather and the time of year.

Glamorous, exciting, lovely, moody, crowded, empty, bright, dull, noisy, quiet, now not so full of vehicles, subway entrances, large red buses always in a line, black cabs, spivs, painted ladies, police (in pairs), theaters, cinemas, pubs, eating houses, House of Commons and the Palace etc, etc. The list could go on for ever!

A great place to visit, but not to live any more.

You'll enjoy it if you go. Autumn is the best time - mid/end October - beautiful colours and concerts in the parks; great lighting of the famous buildings - and the kids are in school!!

  3. amazing and very historical yet has a modern touch.!

  4. Exciting, lively and dirty.
