How would you design the hull of the spaceship?

You want to travel at near the speed of light, you have fast enough engines/power, but your single-load-path hull frame prevents you from going that fast, no matter the shape of the spaceship. How would you design the hull and frame for the higher G and other forces a single load path framed hull can't handle?

  1. Mae it hollow (so it will go fast). No extra stuff or you will unable to go at light speed. Model it after spaceship hulls made by NASA. Make sure it agrees with the laws of aerodynamics. I recommend you make it out of heavy titanium and high grade aluminum. Not too heavy, but you want to make it durable withstanding extreme conditions you will encounter in space. You may encounter things like asteroids in space that may damage your hull. Then, you should probably reinforce it by double layering. Good luck in space!

    first reinforce the hull very well because of the velocity of the vehicle and the various objects that it may fly into

    second reinforce the hull so that a vacuum cant cause it to decompress, then fall apart (not a wanted result),

    third make it so that it has appendages so that it can land and take off efficiently and quickly and easily

    if you think of anything more that it may encount in it's interstellar voyage also think of a way to protect against it

    PS if an object could move the speed of light it would most likely disintegrate before reaching it's destination

  5. Most 'futuristic' spaceship designs are based on incorrect paradigms. These old ideas reflect our roots: we first flew through the air in winged craft, and to fight against vacuum, structures were often spherical in one or more axis. So these are usually the starting points for the next designs.

    An ultra speed spaceship - that requires multiple load paths to reach near light speeds - must fall back on a simpler set of structural physics.

    One of the strongest shapes is the triangle. One of the strongest forms is the 4 sided pyramid, formed by combining 4 triangles together.

    Another consideration is the problem of how to handle dust at high speeds encountered during the travel. The pyramid provides the optimum compromise between the 90 to 0 degree angle of incidence to deflect dust.

    Another problem that must be solved is gravity within the craft. In science fiction, this is handled by gravity generators which in real life do not exist. This prompts the use of one of the original ideas that is still possible: Rotation.

    So, the pyramid is rotated around its forward axis to provide an artificial sense of gravity to the inhabitants.

    The resulting final design, therefore, is a cone which will provide for multiple sources of power in the rear, and a balanced forward facing thrust plate which divides the stress through triangular structures throughout the ship, and which, when rotated will provide an artificial gravity field.

    The hull of the ship has two functional aspects: Outside, it is highly polished ceramic - for radiant heat cooling and low friction regarding dust-drag. That layer is laid over liquid nitrogen filled copper-tungsten-molybdenum temperature control tubing (super-conducting) which is static-electrically charged to focus an electrical and magnetic field far in front of the ship to divert ionized gasses and particles.
