How do you legally put someone down as your babys godmother?

  1. Since you got two different answers I would consult with a lawyer. They normally give free consultations. Just find a lawyer that offers a free one.  


  2. There is no legal paperwork to put it down but you can include them in your will as the one you want to take your child if anything should happen to you.  

  3. i don't think it's a legal option.

    what you can do is prepare your will and state who you want to look after your child in the event of yours and your partners death (i assume that the godmother would be that person) that way your wishes are clear. but make sure that you change your will if your situation changes and you would prefer a different person to be responsible for your child.

  4. To be perfectly honest, the other two answers are nice, but not really true. If you put in a will to have someone take your child in the event of your death, it's more of a recomendation then anything, the courts would still try to place the child with blood relatives unless they were deemed unfit, or didn't want them, and in the event that you had none, the godparents would still have to go through the process of becoming the legal gaurdians, proving to be fit and financially able to care for the kids.
