"Life is a strange, fast trip. I'm just glad we all have seats."

This is from "The L Word"

I was talking about this with someone, but she did not understand it, as English is not her first language.

  1. Life is always changing and goes by fast.  I am happy we get to live it.

  2. Life is a journey. Strange things happen. The journey is quick.

We have seats: we can be comfortable, we can relax, we can just observe

  3. Wow! Most of the explanations I have read above are really quite poor.

What the quote means is that things in life happen very quickly and it can also be strange. At the same time, the person is saying that luckily, he or she is able to maintain stability despite life happening so quickly before him or her. Now, that thing that creates that stability for him/her is unknown since the quote doesn't mention it.

  4. Try "Life is strange, and fast. I'm glad we are all safe during it's duration" then explain that the metaphor is difficult to explain precisely because the character was describing life like a dangerous fairground ride - a "trip" - made more dangerous if you're not strapped in. That's how I look at the quote anyway!

  5. this is saying that life is flying by but they wouldnt want to miss it

  6. life is diffrent, going fast, im happy we have chairs/seats
