How would you feel about going back to the old way of picking the VP?

Basically when this country first started, two people would run against each other.

The winner would be President, the loser Vice President.

I think this would merit re-consideration. One side more or less represents half the country, the other side more or less represents the other half. Wouldn't doing it in this way again make everyone feel more represented again in the executive branch?

And wouldn't it provide the opposing viewpoint to the President, whoever it may be, so that he (or she) could get help in making the right decisions for the entire country?

I don't doubt some problems will still show up, but won't it be less than what we have currently? What do you think?

  1. It didn't work out to well so they changed it. It's best the way it is now.

  2. BAck in the day, we had things like Arron Burr shooting Alexander Hamilton.  We should not go back to that system.

  3. Back in the day; the representation of who could vote was a single spectrum of one group. America has grown and so has her voters and the various demographics, that doesn't warrant the antiquated style of the number two person being automatically assigned the Vice Presidency.

  4. As a Brit I'll await more knowledgeable responses but I think you simplify matters As I understand it, the system was found to be unworkable with the growth of the party system.

  5. It seems like it would increase the risk of assassination.
