I came to know about Shape Magazine in 2007. Since then, I’ve never failed to get a copy. Even when I went overseas, I’ve to remind my hubby to get a copy for me.

Just returned from oversea, got my August issue and as usual, read through all the pages. Then this Oakley sunglasses on page 107 caught my attention. First, I just broke my present sunglasses and next, $140 for a Oakley Flak Jacket sunglasses (as stated in the magazine) is a d**n good deal!

Immediately, I went down to Taka Oakley authorised counter and asked to look at this model. I love it so much but this was a very short happiness, because the counter girl told me “Oakley Flak Jacket are never $140, the cheapest is $295!” she added, “you may want to look at the cheaper range, however the cheapest is still $195.”

And my day was gone like that… then I start to doubt the accuracy of the info...

I sent this issue to Shape and ask for an explanantion, however, what I got was a very lame excuse:

"We apologise for the inconvenience you experienced. It was an oversight on our part and we will ensure such mistakes do not occur again. XXXX, Deputy editor, Shape"

My confidence in this magazine is gone.

  1. What else can you do - F2 - forgive and forget. If they do not volunteer to compensate you, you can't do anything. On the other hand, if you choose to keep this inside you, the company will not know and it is going to harm yourself only, no one else. So who get it hittest most - yourself.

If you confidence in the magazine is gone, give yourself a break first. When you need advice on how to keep your shape, then you go back to them again.

Let it go, it will be better to yourself. Good luck.

  2. Honestly, I can understand your frustration and disappointment.  However, I think you are being a little too hard on the magazine.  People (and businesses) are human and we make mistakes.

I would guess working in advertising and verifying every detail that goes out in a magazine by an editor on deadlines can be grueling.  And mind you, they are human too.  They probably also rely on their staff to provide them w/accurate info.

On a second note, I don't know your financial situation (and it's none of anyone's business) but if you had an expectation to spend the amount you had read then were basically told it was going to cost you more, it may have really ruffled your feathers if you didn't want to pay anymore than what you expected.  Especially if you are like many of us hit in this economy more than normal.

All said, in my opinion it sounds like a twofold situation - perhaps it was an innocent error on their part (Shape) and maybe a financial frustration in your own budget.  Just a thought only you can answer.

And again - just my opinion...I could be completely wrong and I know that! :)  If you loved the magazine that much, wouldn't it be worth to at least consider this and give them another chance?
