How would you feel if the Draft is re-instated?

We must stay in Iraq for the long-term. Re-instatement of the Draft will ensure that troop levels are kept high. The Arabian Gulf must be protected and keeping our interest secure is vitally important and cannot be ignored. The rebuilding of Iraq must go on after the Bush II Administration has ended. The Draft will send a strong message to Iran. Senator McCain I ask of you to please re-instate the Draft.

  1. Do you want to start the revolution over again?

As a father of twin boys, there no way I would want them to die so we can get our greedy hands on Middle East oil.

Who do we as Americans think we are trying to control other people? Our arrogance is outrageous. No wonder why the world hates us.

We have no business whatsoever having our military outside our own borders. Do you see Chinese troops or their products in San Diego?

  2. Our interest? Would that be keeping our greedy fingers dipped into the oil market?

I would be angered if the draft was reinstated. It is unfair to make people serve a duty to which they do not want to participate. Those brave people who want to join the military can freely do so, and I think there are enough people who do it to not reinstate a draft. Would you happily go over there to protect "our" interests?

It is a shame that all of these politicians and older people are for this war, and yet they are the generation that is pretty much untouched by drafts. Send all of our politicians and their family members over there to fight for a few days, and lets see how they turn out. I'm sick of the ordinary, average American citizen risking their lives for those who claim war is right, but not the politicians who are too comfortable in their expensive homes. If they are so sure that this war is just, they should be eagerly jumping out of their expensive suits and picking up a rifle.

  3. I'd be pissed. My brother is 20 and considering dropping out of college, so they'd probably ship him out there. I love him and all the other young men that are draft material in this country, and I'd hate to see them die in some unholy war. I'm especially apprehensive to support a draft if it would contribute to the possibility of a war in Iran. That would be World War III right there.

  4. Study Articles 9 and 14 of the Bill of Rights in the USA Constitution, then share with us your new view. During WW II people really wanted to defeat Fascism then, but due to media mis-information and often lies by the President and many in Congress does not encourage "We the People" to vote on a national referendum to enact the Draft again.

  5. This country was founded on the idea of its being protected by citizen soldiers ( the militia) because our Founding Fathers feared a large standing Federal Army.  This eventually evolved into the military draft--i.e. calling up citizens to be soldiers.  And it worked quite well despite all of the bitching about it.

I served in Vietnam, but I was a volunteer.  The draft was going full blast then to provide enough troops.  Who ever said that you had to like war to serve your country?  I hated it, but I felt an obligation to serve.  The problem today is that so many young folks think there is no cause bigger than themselves to serve.  They also feel that they owe nothing to their country.  They vociferously demand all of their "rights", but they are unwilling to fight to preserve them.  They have no sense of responsibility at all.  I know lots of guys who avoided the draft in various ways during Vietnam and most of them now have guilty consciences.  They realize now that when they avoided the draft, then someone else had to go and fill their slot.  And most of them were not so much against the war as they wanted us to believe; they were afraid of getting their asses shot off and were perfectly willing to let others get their asses shot off instead.  I also know many guys who will tell you that being drafted into the military was the best thing that ever happened to them.  They will tell you that they learned teamwork, responsibility, skills for their future, and that it made men out of them.

I think there should be a draft today, but a draft that is fair, unlike the draft was 40 years ago.  I think it should be a part of Universal Service Act wherein ALL young people would have to serve their country for two years in some capacity.  Many would be trained in the military and then serve 6 months in the service.  After 6 months they could serve the remainder of their obligation in another capacity.  In return they would be given free educations after their government service.  This would give us a very large part of our citizenry with military training who could be activated in short order in the face of a national crisis.  It would also give us a much better educated and more responsible citizenry.

  6. i take it you are not a man between the ages of 18 to 32. if so you can enlist.

  7. Draft eh?  Canada here I come!!

In all seriousness though, this has been debated over the last few years.  Conclusion is, we don't have the worlds most superior military force because we forced teens and young 20 years olds into a war they don't want to be in.  We have an ALL volunteer force that WANTS to be there.  They want to get the training, they want the benefits that come with being in the military, they want to use the skills they were trained for.  And, they are pretty d**n good at it.

Now put someone in the military, in the warzone, that does NOT want to be there.  You have a recipe for disaster.  Mistakes will be made.  Money will be wasted training people who don't want to be there and could potentially put everyone else in danger.

And what's up with asking Senator McCain to re-instate the draft?  One guy alone isn't going to make it happen.  The entire Congress needs to pass a bill.  I think it was Rep. Rangel that tried to get the draft reinstated and people pretty much shrugged him off and his idea as a joke.  It's not going to happen unless something happens to thousands of our troops, or if we're invaded.. therefore needing more troops to fight.

A draft would not send any stronger message to Iran than we are already sending.  They already know we can destroy their entire country and culture with the push of a button.  Adding regular men and women citizens to the military would not scare Iran into submission.  Only way to stop Iran is to let Israel do as she pleases.  Let Israel loose and we'll end up having peace over there.  Peace is won in battle, peace is not won by signing a peace agreement/accord.

    Just my 2 cents.

  8. will never happen. The draft was the reason we lost the VIetnam war. The draft got more people involved in protesting, which lead to bad political actions on the war.

What he should do is lift most of the restrictions we have on this war on terror.

  9. I wouldn't care; I'm medically ineligible, they can't touch me.
