How would you feel if your daughter was having s*x at 17 years-old?

This is not about me. I am almost 17. I am in a relationship though where both of us have decided not to have s*x until marriage. This question is for my friend Maria.

She has been with her boyfriend for four months (she thinks that's a long time, I disagree!). He is 22 and she is 17. Her parents have met him and they like him. His parents like her as well. She is thinking about having s*x with him but is afraid that her parents will find out. She is worried what they will think and do. The age of conscent in our state (NY) is 17.

Her question for you is, if you found out your 17 year old daughter was having s*x... what would you do?

She says she's in love.

my mum and dad knew i was having s*x at that age. they let my boyfriend stay over from 16. My brother was allowd the same rules. THe age of consentin England is 16 and you leave school here at that age

A normal parent would probably make them not see each other again. But heck how can they find out. Do it in privacy, lock the door no way to find out.

I'm not a dad-Im a mother to a one year old but at 17 I don't think id be too upset -of course I say that now knowing 17 is FAR AWAY LOL!!!!

UmmmmI was 15 -which was young looking back but it does come down to an individuals maturity level

Every parent knows their child. They know when they are grown up enough to make adult decisions and live with the consquences. In my opinion, I don't think that Maria is ready for s*x, because she would not be worrying about her parents thoughts. But to answer your question, if I found out that my 17 year daughter was having s*x, we would sit down and have a serious conversation. I would also take her to the doctor's and get tested for everything and also provide her with birth control, because once you start you will continue. Thats what I would do, not to say that what her mother would do.

I would not be very happy about it.But as there of the age of consent there would be no way of stopping them .The parents will be upset .They both need to keep to safe s*x and no pregnancies and keep true to each other.Best though is keep chaste and wait for marriage love Dell

Once if you grow older you will realized how important to keep abstain from s*x until you get married. s*x is not the way a person express love. If the boyfriend says that he want to do that because he want is in love with her, I will tell you the truth that he isn't telling the truth. Once question that you can ask your friend to ask her is that asking the boyfriend "What do you think of us getting married." If he spit out all the nonsense it will prove that he is lying. One day after he got all the pleasure he will leave her and get another girl friend and will do and says thesame think again. Tell her to really consider this. You can't really control hat your children do as a parent because some children or I will say most children will hide thing from the parent because they know it is wrong. Children don't want to ask an opinion but approval. Therefore if the children think that the parent will disapproved, hence the children will most likely never ask. However, what determine the children especially teenager do is how the parent taught them when they were a kid. It is very hard to change a person's attitude if it not built when he/she is young. However, there is a chance people will change trought God's Grace. Even if the person have made  mistake for, example giving your virginity before married, that person cannot go back to fix it. ok let me tell you....i had s*x when i was 16 with my bf......my parents knew right off the back i dont know how they found out but they did,,,,, anyways i told my dad and he ws really really really disappointed in me... and the look in his face killed me... i was younger than what you are now.. my advice wait... hes 22 years old hes an adult and your still a kid .... me and my bf was going out for 3 YEARS before i did  anything with him... 22 is a party stage, and think about how you would feel after you gave it up to him..what if he left what  would you do then?

the best thing to do is wait. I'm 17 and my parents found out and don't want me near my boyfriend again !! tell her how lucky she is to have a family that support her and trust her as much as they do, i had that and lost it, i dont regret doing it with my boyfriend i just wish i approached my parents about it rather than hide it.

I would not be happy about it.  I tell my kids to come to me for anything and I mean everything and work things out from there. Sneaking about is never a good idea.  Take for example my 20 yr old son and his 17 yr old girlfriend.  She got pregnant!  Hence I have a beautiful 2 month old grandson.  However, this past year has been the worst for everyone concerned. She has yet to turn 18 and is still living at home in what I consider to be an unhealthy situation for the baby, herself and any one who happens to really care about the baby.  My son is a zombie with worry about everyone and now they must find a place to live, go to school and raise a baby.  Each one of those situations is major in and of it self.

Please talk to a parent or someone you can trust regarding birth control.  Condoms are not fool proof.

That's when I started having s*x. Also, I only dated him for about three or four months before we had s*x, but I was ready and I don't regret a thing.

However, I personally think her boyfriend is too old for her. But if her parents like him, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
