Question:

How would you feel if your favorite team's rival went out of business?

Just asking for giggles here. Here's an example: Say you're a Yankees fan (like me) and the Red Sox find themselves in major financial problems that will force the team to go out of business at the end of the season. What would be your reaction be? Would you laugh or be happy that your longtime rival is no longer existence? Or would you be upset knowing that a major opponent won't be around to test your team anymore? As for me, I wouldn't want to see it. Rivalry is what helps make sports what it is.

So, what's your thoughts?

  1. It seems like every team is the Cubs rivalry.....so maybe we would finally win a world series.

  2. I'd be upset. The rivalries are what makes the history of the teams so interesting - the Yankees aren't the Yankees without the Red Sox...and vice versa.

  3. No way!! One of my favorite teams is whoever plays the Dallas Cowboys. I love to hate them. I would be very sad to go.  ;(

  4. id suck if the A's would go out of business like the other person said Angels As game are always fun

  5. ahh that's tempting

just to want to say I would love to get rid of them

as a White Sox fan the Twins have been BIG pains as they never let you win in peace

YET like you said it makes the game and in honesty you cant just hope to kill off teams because sooner or later you would have a new rival.

  6. Yea, i wouldnt be happy if the Angels went outta business.  Cuz the Angels/A's games are always close and tight affairs which are decided late in the game.  And its always pithcing duels.  So fun.

  7. "So there is a God."

  8. Same like you the Yankees Red Sox Rivalry is fun , what other team can bring that

  9. It would be awful to see the Yankees out of business.  The rivalry between our two teams is like no other in sports and I would miss it! The stress I feel every time we play each other would be gone but, where is the fun in that?

  10. Rivalries do make sports great. So I would be disappointed. On another note, I have to disagree with you Elizabeth but I'm a Rays fan (since 2001 when Hal McRae took over) but an Rays/Yankees or Rays/Red Sox rivalry would be great if the Rays played spoiler and prevented one of them from postseason play. I think the baseball community is tired of a Yankees/Red Sox postseason games. Its time to mix things up.

  11. well im a cubs fan but i wouldnt mind if the sox went away.but as for other rivalrys i love to watch Yanks/Sox and Angels/As but i want the cards to keep challenging the cubs

  12. i would love it because then those annoying mets fans that i wanna beat the c**p out of every time i see them at my ballpark would not be there when i go to a game and would never have to hear those annoying voices screaming and yelling the most predictable things. either get creative or shut the h**l up!!

  13. I think that it would be horrible; you need those rivalries to keep you going, as a Phillies fan if the Mets were not there to have a rivalry with I would be saddened more than anything.  It would cheapen the season to have to have a rivalry with the Nationals...although to have a rivalry the other team has to put up a fight so there goes the Nationals from this talk!

  14. I'm a die-hard Yankee fan, and I hate the Sox, but if I found out the Red Sox franchise is going "out of business", I'd be real disappointed. I love the rivalry.

  15. I would laugh for a few million years but also be dissapointed that the rivalry is done! Its a great and legendary rivalry that i dont want to end!

  16. baseball wouldnt be the same without red sox vs yankees or like giants vs dodgers...we need rivalries...games would be pretty boring without them...think obut it...red sox vs royals...no thanks...or rockies vs cubs...no thanks to that too
