I have been looking for a home in NC. Well, we found our dream home, it is ideal in everyway as far as home and land are concerned, Now the first problem is on each side of house is trailor parks, I think I could handle that, there is lots of yard and space between. Then we find out there is a plot of land in front of the home and the owner intends to put his bussiness on.I am not sure of the size or type of bussiness it is. Would these things be in issue when it comes to your dream home, and value, how woudl it affect all of these areas?

  1. well depending on the business -- you have wonder what kind of traffic will be there, will the parking lot be in the back right in front of your house, will it be in walking distance for people that might want to cut through your yard to get to it, what about the dumpsters and garbage trucks, and other service trucks like food, and drinks if its a resturaunt or convenient store.... those are risks you take, I would do your best to find out what kind of business it will be..

  2. I would keep looking.  The trailer parks might bring crime into your neighborhood, unless they are really high-end, well-managed communities.  And the business might bring noise, increased traffic, loiterers, and other problems.  Also, these factors will affect the ability of your home to appreciate, which means your biggest investment, your house, won't keep up with comparable homes.

  3. Definately! You could be faced with tons of traffic, litter, God only knows. Keep looking.

  4. The trailer park and the commercial property would kill your marketability, and thus your fair market value.  If you ever wanted to sell, you would have to find someone else willing to live between trailer parks and behind a business. Not many people do.

    Keep looking.
