How would you go about buying taxi's for a taxi business?

I have a friend in michigan, who wants to start a taxi business. But does not know how to go about buying taxi vehicles and taxi meters in michigan? Does anyone know any websites or any advice on how to buy taxi's? Thank you!

  1. In our state the licenses are harder to get than the cars/equipment.  You might want to start with what permits and costs are associated with running a taxi.


  2. you need a license before they will even sell the taxi cars to you. The licenses are very difficult to get.  Go to your local DMV department and they should be able to direct you to the right office in your states transportation authority.

  3. Contact some of your local automobile dealerships for large company vehicle fleet returns. sometimes all of there cars are turned in at the sme time and resold to taxi companies. Also you can contact local city police, fire dept,etc to see when/if there cars/vans are turned in.  

  4. A good start would be to call a taxi company and ask if they have any for sale? If you don't have a lot of capital, you will probrably have to buy used anyway. Also search for taxicab distributors and suppliers.
