How would you go about finding out if someone has taken a life insurance policy on you without your permission

i have reason to suspect that someone i'm related to has taken out a policy on me without my permission. what is the best way to find out. this person has not lived with me for almost 20 yrs and i don't trust her and would not be surpised if she has done this or something like this to me and someone esle i'm related to. she lives in a different state than i do and i have no idea how to investigate.

  1. This insured person must sign a policy because they have to answer the application questions (not the policy owner). So this would be illegal. Also, an agent must ask the insured person the questions, so if you have not been asked the question, it is not legal.

    But could it be done? Well, it could be done by fraud. I'm not sure how to find out, but if you do find out, the person (and possibly the agent or company) would be in big trouble.


  2. Well, there's no central database.  That's probably what you're asking.  There's no free place, there's no agency that collects life insurance policy information.

    But they can't take out a policy on you, unless they have someone else with your photo ID, impersonating you, doing the blood tests, releasing your medical records, etc.

    But if you're super paranoid, you can pay $75 to MIB, and they will give you a list of all the insurance companies that have received an application on you, in the past ten years.    I guess you can do that every six months if you want, to make sure that no one still buys a policy on your life.
