How would you go about restoring the tacky-ness in my putter grip??

Question

I have a Nike putter and it is only a year old...I like the grip, but it seems it has lost alot of the tacky-ness....Any suggestions short of replacing the grip ??

Dootch -

You must be like me, once I get a putter grip on the way I like it I hate to take it off for fear the next one won't be quite right! And I've been changing my own grips for 15 years!

I do exactly what Mike A says above except there's a key step he left off......take a square of gritty sandpaper and rub it on the grip for about 20 seconds....do it over a trash can because all kinds of rubber and grit will fall out.....

After this do what Mike A said and your grip will be nice and tacky for a few weeks.....after doing this keep it tacky by washing it often, only hit it with the sandpaper a couple times a year.

I've tried all sorts of things and I've found this to be the best.  First clean the grips with dish soap, then use a medium grit sand paper to scuf the grips.  Trust me they'll feel like new afterwards!

1. Scrub it with dish soap and a stiff nylon (potato) brush.

2. Wipe it with a lint-free cloth soaked in a solution of 1/2 water and 1/2 mineral spirits

3. Wipe clean with a dry, clean, lint-free cloth

If that doesn't work, pull out $12 and go to your local PGA Professional and he'll pop a new one on in about 10 minutes.

Hot soapy water does wonders. you'd be amazed how much tackyness returns. Regripping is also an option.

Wash it with a stiff nylon brush and a degreasing type of detergent like "Simple Green".  Scrub with the nylon brush while rinsing.  If this doesn't work do the same thing that dragsters do to make their tires sticky.  Scrub with a diluted laundry bleach solution.  By the way, wash your hands after you put on sunscreen
