My five year old little girl came up to me yesterday and said,

"When i grow up I want to be drunk ALL the time!"

I responded,

"Don't we all,"

then explained that drinking too much when you are older is the same as eating to much candy or doing too much of pretty much anything. that when you become an adult you can drink but you should only do so every once in awhile. Her father is a recovering alcoholic and she knows all about it so i used him as an example of things that can happen when you drink to much.

  1. She had to hear that somewhere kids knowledge just dont fall out the sky.Just continue to talk and teach her that, that is not a good thing. U have to keep them informed b/c then they become curious

  2. Give her a Beer and help her get started on her career!

  3. I wouldn't take it too seriously, when my son was two he said he wanted socks and sugar for Christmas!!!

I do think that you did 100% absolutely the right thing though, but remember she is only two, you don't need to be very in depth - brief and to the point, lighthearted, bright and breezy!

Don't be overly hard on yourself or read too much into it (because of her father) sometimes kids say things and it isn't a sign of something more deep rooted or disturbing, it's just kids being kids! Good Luck

  4. there are a lot of things that kids will say or do

just dont worry about it all that much .. hopefully you can teach her as she grows up that being a drunk isnt a positive thing ...

then after that it is up to her to decide what she will do with her life

  5. I think that is probably the best way you can deal with it. Right now, she is so young that she doesn't quite understand. It's best to humor her, but at the same time tell her why she shouldn't think that way.

  6. You were doing good up until the using father as example....

I personally would have asked "why?"  then keyed off of the answer..

could be that she just thinks its funny and you can do short things at various times to answer the observation of her wnating to be drunk.

short snippets and personal role modeling will go a long ways over the years....

  7. it seems like you think its her choice what she does??

until she 18 or 19 shes under your control!

you should not let her get drunk!!

its ok just one glass in the house with you there wen shes over 11 or something but never let her be drunk!!

also make sure she k nows smokin and swearing is naughty

  8. Well I wouldn't worry too much as she will probably want to be a fairy or cinderella next week. I wouldn't harp on about her dad though, he's her dad and she won't want his faults pointed out to her at five, let her make her own mind up when she is older about drink and he can talk to her then too.

  9. Say that being drunk isnt a good thing.

where did she learn this anyway?

  10. I would not fret too much I am sure she aslo wants to be a cat when she grows up too. Teach that is will make her sick and makes her do bad things that she wouldn't do normaly. If she knows about daddy have him help tell his tale. She may be predisposed to drinking hard becouse of daddy. I am becouse of my mom so I never drink It is much easier to never start than it is to have to stop.
