Question:

How would you know when "Global Warming" was over?

Currently temperatures have decreased 0.06 degrees per year for the last 10 years.

At what point would you determine "global warming" was over and done with?

How many more years of temperature declines do you need to see before you start thinking that "global warming" was over?

How low must temperatures get before you know that we've made the change away from any additional warming and are now in a cooling pahse?

  1. In 1999 and again in 2007 we have had a negative correction.

Between 2000 and early 2007 we have had a resumption of the upward trend from the correction of 1999.

We remain above the bottom of the correction of 2000.

What is most interesting in this is an explanation of the corrections that have occurred as we reached almost the same high point on the graph. Does this indicate an upper level that may repeat over and over again?

If it does, we may see a repeating pattern of warming trend followed by sharp reduction. The net effect may be that the seas may see progressive warming.

Does the earth suddenly cool when those corrections occur, or is it that the seas are moving that heat deeper into the water?

Note that in 2007 our Arctic ice cover largely melted along with late year cooling. There may be a cause-effect relationship.

Could that melt water and increased outflow of arctic water have lowered our global temperatures?

  2. We will know when global warming, and or global cooling are over, when we start seeing clear skys, without any smog.

  3. When "they" can't wring any more money out of us, in the name of global warming.  When the news anchors tell us it is over.  When the environmentalists all move to some other planet.  When the environmentalists get their wish and each and every human dies of some mysterious disease, and the earth is left to the animals and plants, to return to its pre-destined, pristine state.

  4. When we are all dead.

  5. it is over, they just changed the name to climate change, thats all. =/

  6. Global anything is a joke. Try to conceive how to get a true GW. They data they used was from old thermometers. They are not scattered around the world evenly.  The thermometers were not calibrated , The accuracy could be as bad as + - 3 deg F. How many more cities were in the warm climate compared to the cold climate. There is a math problem. U do not take average of averages , it will produce an ERROR.

  7. Until the world's climate agencies get their collective acts together and 'fix' the horrendous condition of the surface monitoring stations that are used for climate studies, then insofar as I am concerned, there is no 'global warming'.

The data has been and continues to be less credible as man and his cities, highways....etc. encroach on the stations.  The result has been that surface temperatures have 'become' more and more inaccurate.... showing warmer than actual temperatures.

    Bad Data = NO Science

  8. "Currently temperatures have decreased 0.06 degrees per year for the last 10 years."

    Unsubstantiated and false claim.

"At what point would you determine "global warming" was over and done with?"

When the long-term global temperature trend stops increasing.

"How many more years of temperature declines do you need to see before you start thinking that "global warming" was over?"

Any would be a good start.  At least 20-30.

"How low must temperatures get before you know that we've made the change away from any additional warming and are now in a cooling pahse?"

They must stop increasing, for starters.  Then the long-term trend must stop being positive.

  9. Global warming will be over when environmentalists find a new horse to climb on.

  10. you can't compare one yr at a time. I also think your way off on your data?

  11. I have no idea where you get your "data," but temperatures have been INCREASING for the past decades.

Global warming will end when the entire human race commits to ending it by switching to sustainable energy and working toward conserving resources. If we ignore global warming, sea levels will continue to rise, there will be mass extinctions, global food and water shortages, and quite possibly wars over oil.

Oh, look. I'm citing my sources, unlike you.

  12. The alarmists believe that man will turn Earth into another bright star.  I guess if that happened it'd be over.  Until then I'll accept the certified data that the earth is indeed cooling.  Maybe global warming is already over.

  13. When the con artists like Al Gore are no longer making money from this scam, and governments are not trying to add taxes and control your life because of GW it is over.

  14. when the earth is covered with a glacier again.

  15. Global warming will be over when the weather is always good.  If you feel cold or hot or wish it wouldnt rain or that it would, then we are having pretty serious global warming.  If hurricanes hit cities, then we have global warming.  If there is a flood or a drought, then there is global warming.  If someone is free, not completely controlled by their government, then we have global warming.

  16. Global temperatures HAVE NOT decreased .06 degrees per year as shown in the graph...

I would determine GW to be over when scientists say it's over, not based off of your speculation. Who are you to question their expertise? What qualifications do you have? I suggest if you want to disprove the theory, man up and get published in a science journal, so you can show those pesky PhD's how dumb they are. Oh, that's probably why you're here, because you'd get laughed at.

  17. omg, you are too daft!  Your data is all wrong, temperatiures have increased, water levels  have continued to rise, tropical storms, rain and tornadoes have been happening more often, wats wrong with you?!

  18. Global Warming will end with a whimper and not a bang.  In time everybody will bore of it and go find some other hobgoblin that goes bump in the dark.  20 years from now we will all look at this and see how silly it was, and its current supporters, convinced they could never again be so easily fooled, will go out and be fooled by some other phony scare.

  19. It will be over when the environmentalists say it's over.
