  1. Route from Lax to Las huh?

LOOP4 DAG KEPEC2 .......that's how you pronounce them.

Lima Oscar etc is the NATO Phonetic Alphabet..........

    So here's atc.

Southwest 323 cleared to LasVegas airport as filed, fly runway heading, expect FL 350...010 minutes after departure, expect the Loop4 for departure squawk 2322

    (my atc is rusty)

    Loop4 is a Terminal Procedure

    Dag is a VOR

And i think KEPEC2 is a VOR, it might be a way point....

Anyway in short form, you don't pronounce VOR names or STAR names etc in Phonetic Alphabet.

  2. "LOOP4 departure, Daggett transition, KEPEC2 arrival."

You don't have to spell them out unless confusion arises.

Names of procedures and waypoints (the procedures are named after the waypoints) are designed to be pronounceable.  The actual pronunciations sometimes vary a bit from one person to another, but as long as ATC and pilots understand each other, that's not a problem.  VORs such as DAG are usually identified by their plain English names (Daggett in this case), but you can spell out the three letters (Delta Alpha Golf) if any confusion arises.

  3. Names are specifically chosen to be pronounceable. But it is perfectly fine to use the phonetic alphabet if you have some reason to prefer it. Reasons might include being unsure of the pronunciation, having a speech impediment that might make the pronunciation unclear, or encountering poor radio conditions.

  4. LOOP4 is a Departure Procedure, so you'd say, or the controller would say, "Cleared to XYZ via the Loop-4 departure, direct Daggett..."  You'd get the KEPEC2 Arrival closer to your destination from Approach Control, your initial clearance wouldn't show that.

The DP you'll say the actual name, "LOOP4."  The VOR you can either spell out or say the name.  If it's local, the controller will know it; if it's distant, he may ask you to say the 3-letter ID.

  5. If you want to convey the routing to someone (for example filing a flight plan) you would say "Loop Four departure, Daggett, Kepec Two arrival..."

If you are not familiar with the area and/or not sure the full name of DAG it would be perfectly fine to say "Loop Four departure, Delta-Alpha-Golf, Kepec Two arrival..." Any pilot or controller would understand you.

If you were getting the ATC clearance with this route, the controller would likely say "Cleared to ___ (destination), Loop Four departure, Daggett (or Daggett transition), then as filed, maintain ___ (altitude), squawk ___ (code)
