I've seen a great many Olympics ceremonies, but the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony was the most stunning display I've ever witnessed. It cost over $300 million for Opening Ceremony alone - not including any other costs. The ceremony lasted approximately 4 hours, costing $75 million an hour or over $1 million per minute!! The performers numbered in the thousands. The costumes, props, complexity, and money were staggering. Bob Costas, who hosts the Olympics on NBC and seen many opening ceremonies in his time, has said that this was the best opening ceremony he's ever witnessed and the Opening Ceremony trophy should be retired after this display. Similarly, Olympics commentators on USA networks has said that Beijing's opening ceremony has ruined opening ceremonies for everyone, because it will not be topped for a very long time. If you have not see the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, I highly recommend that you catch it youtube or rerun.

How would you personally rank the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony? Which part was your favorite and most memorable?

  1. It was very good wasn't it? :) There were just so many people and the precision and timing was just stunning - we'll never pull off anything like that in London!!! :)

My favourite part was the light-up drums right at the beginning - how long must they have practised that for??? And I loved the lighting of the torch, with the guy running around the roof :)

The fireworks were really good too - the footprints to the stadium! We do fireworks quite well in Britain though so I'm not too worried about that :)

  2. hmm....on a scale of 1 - 10, I would probably rate it at ....oh...... 1 MILLION!!! OMG the opening ceremony is world class and the lighting of the torch was unexpected and amazing, i'm still watching reruns of it (along with the games of course)!!!! I don't have a favourite part cuz the whole thing was so fantastic it's sooooooo hard to choose.

  3. On a scale of one to ten i would rate it politically driven yet amazing.

  4. lol wut?

  5. I agree. They won't be able to top it for a very long time. But everyone will remember it.

The very end with Lee Ning running around the edge was my favorite because my two little brothers' gymnastics coach is his friend. Their coach didn't make it to the olympics because he hurt his back, but his friend since they were kids won the all around. So that's a fun connection.

  6. It really was, unbelievable, the drummers at the start were spot on in time and the lighting of the torch was unbelievable.
