I've seen a great many Olympics ceremonies, but the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony was the most stunning display I've ever witnessed. It cost over $300 million for Opening Ceremony alone - not including any other costs. The ceremony lasted approximately 4 hours, costing $75 million an hour or over $1 million per minute!! The performers numbered in the thousands. The costumes, props, complexity, and money were staggering. Bob Costas, who hosts the Olympics on NBC and seen many opening ceremonies in his time, has said that this was the best opening ceremony he's ever witnessed and the Opening Ceremony trophy should be retired after this display. Similarly, Olympics commentators on USA networks has said that Beijing's opening ceremony has ruined opening ceremonies for everyone, because it will not be topped for a very long time. If you have not see the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, I highly recommend that you catch it youtube or rerun.

How would you personally rank the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony? Which part was your favorite and most memorable?

  1. It was the best ever opening ceremony,i doubt it will ever be topped ? It was simply awe inspiring unbelievably good, choreographed to precision without fault. I loved the countdown with the electric drums that were all synchronized with all the masses of people.

  2. I agree with La, this was the best Olympic opening ever. It was big and beautiful. Unfortunately, NBC decided to play butcher and start cutting and chopping everything, while ironically many foreign media outlets played everything. The funny thing is NBC had a so-called "China Analyst" who  couldn't even speak Chinese and when he referred to Tai Chi as Karate I lost it. I think NBC should be horse whipped for their poor coverage especially having paid so much money for the right to cover the games...anyway bravo  Zhang Yimou and crew!

  3. I think the whole ceremony was the most memorable one of all. I think that after this ceremony many people are going to try to copy some of the things they did, topping that opening ceremony will be a big challenge. I could see how much discipline there was just by watching these people. They have done a good job directing all the people in just one number, this might be a small detail but if you notice the people in one number all look the same....the same height, haircut, makeup, and they're faces almost look very alike. It was amazing. The Chinese really wanted to prove that they were the best. Almost all of the events were memorable...i like the printing one, the painting with dancing people, the drums, lighting of the torch, and the olympic rings or and that globe. Amazing...thats all i can say...

  4. nbc cut our parts of the opening ceremony, we watched the live broadcast on mexican channel and showed all of it then we watched on nbc, stuff was cut out. the live uninterrupted seen on mx channel was awsome.

  5. LOVED IT.

many of my friends and myself felt that it totally embodied the olympic spirit with a chinese touch to it (since they're the host country). i've seen some posts about how it's too 'chinese' and it's too boring, and should've been modernised. but think about it, if every olympics all the host countries did the modernised thing, it would just be really really really monotonous and BORING. every country's culture is unique and different and colourful and vibrant.

first of all, the chinese are party animals, take a look at their history, they always had spectacular itinerary in their festivals etc.

so i applaud china for their hard work, they could kick anybody's *** if they wanted to.

GO CHINA! i think host countries in the future would have to try to live up to what china did for the opening ceremony.
