  3. Hopkins? Great at subtlety. Doesn't look like he's doing much next thing you know you've been taken apart.

Calzaghe? Great hand speed and timing. Can be wild at times. Usually takes a few rounds to get in a grove but one he gets going it's hard to stop him.

Trinidad? Devasting puncher. One of the greatest offensive fighters of all time.

Mosley? Great boxer puncher at lightweight Devasting power as a lightweight. Should never gone up to jr middle.

Cotto? Best body puncher in the biz right now. Defense is starting to get much better.

JMM? Underrated technician. Good combination puncher. A little to brave at times.

Manny Pac. Not the most creative fighter but good at what he does  fast hands and serious power.

Glen Johnson? Getting better with age. Glen Johnson is a true grit boxer puncher with great vision in the ring. Underrated timing and power.

Chad Dawson? Good speed. Overrated power. Suspect Chin, Good combination puncher - stays in the front of opponents a little too long.

Mayweather? Best Defense in the game. Underrated body puncher. I think Floyd could be  real beast if he was a tad more consistent with combination punching.

  4. Hopkins:  Great at 160, had the complete package and took care of his tools (body), one of the very best at middleweight, at the higher weight age caught up to him.  (10)

Calzaghe:  Solid chin, great work ethic, good movement but has the tendency to slap or loop arm punches for the sake of numbers.  Very good, but protected most of his career.  (8)

Trinidad:  Heavy hitter, dangerous puncher, but like all punchers open to counter shots and sacrificed some lateral movement to set his power shots. (8)

Mosley:  Excellent hand and foot speed, but mental lapses hurt his over performance.  He had the physical tools to be an all time great, but somehow couldn't apply his skill when it mattered most.  Wright, Forrest and Cotto had the answer to Shane, and exposed his flaws.  (8)

Cotto:  Tough, game, and a solid body puncher.  Cotto surprised a lot of people with the improvement of his over all boxing skill in some of his more recent fights and showed he is much more than a dangerous puncher.  Like all heavy hitters, Cotto is open to counter shots.  Over all a very dangerous fighter.  Cotto has a questionable chin, but few other weaknesses. (9)

Juan Manuel Marquez:  Defined toughness and will in the first Pacquaio fight, and in truth should have won it.  World Class and technically just about as good at is gets.  Earned the respect of all in boxing.  (10)

Manny Pacquiao:  Fearsome and respected power puncher, quite possibly the hardest hitting little guy to come along in a century.  Dramatically improved his boxing skills to make it even worse on his opponents, he corrected the flaws that most sluggers are vulnerable to and has become one of if not the P4P best at present.  If that's not enough, he's a southpaw.  Clearly world class and the best of the lower weights. (10)

Glen Johnson:  Solid, aggressive pressure fighter with an iron chin and the power and will to wear down anyone.  Very underrated and a much better fighter than his record indicates, one of the best at 175.  If Calzaghe wants the respect of the American boxing crowd, all he need do is fight and beat Johnson. (8)

Chad Dawson:  The hand and foot speed of youth is a beautiful thing, and it hides a lot of flaws that become apparent later in a fighters career.  Still a lot of questions, but so far Dawson has answered them when they arose.  Good, but not great champion.  Chad would be a better choice of opponent for Calzaghe, it Calzaghe is serious about his own legacy than Glen Johnson. (7)

Floyd Mayweather:  At 140lbs and below Floyd was the complete package, truly boxing's P4P best.  At 147 and above Floyd is unproven and vulnerable.  Clearly he lacks the power he possessed at the lower weights and given his tendency to hand pick opponents, at 147 and above Floyd suffers from the same lack of respect Joe Calzaghe is saddled with.  You must fight the best to be the best and at welterweight and above Floyd hasn't done this.  Of all on the list, Floyd Mayweather has the most legitimate chance for historical greatness, but without an imprint on the welterweight division, he risks tarnishing a brilliant career.  (10)

  5. I define "technical boxing skills" as "hitting and not getting hit".  Here we go. .  .

Hopkins:  9, fights very technical, but tougher than nearly anyone

Calzaghe:  8, lots of shots, but sometimes they slap

Trinidad:  7, relied on power, but could box with the best

Mosley: 9, very slick and smooth style, uses the whole ring

Cotto: 5, forward movement, no defense, big power

JMM: 8, rather good boxer, rather good defense

Pacman: 8, gets hit too often to be a "9", but great performer

Johnson: 8, epitome of "cagey". . . one of the best

Dawson: 7, limited boxing ability, but able to perform well as an all-around athlete

Mayweather: 10, lightning fast, nearly impossible to hit cleanly

  6. Hopkins- He is a very crafty boxer, who dissects his opponents and breaks them down through a combination of tactics and accuracy, in his prime Bernard Hopkins was a great technical boxer and a very smart ring general, his biggest flaw was dirty fighting, he often relied on dirty tactics and this always affected him on score cards, and he often had problems with boxers that were much faster than he was. i rate him a (9)

Calzaghe- He has a great work rate and he is pretty good at putting pressure on his opponents, his biggest flaw however is that he throws a lot of punches but lands a lot fewer times then he throws them, Hopkins exposed this weakness in their fight, another flaw that i found was that he leaves himself open to counter shots a lot and if he was facing a harder hitter that could be the trouble for him.(8)

Trinidad- He was a natural born puncher who relied on his knock out power to win fights, his biggest flaw however is that he leaves himself exposed way too much all for the sake of power and this has always affected him negatively, he had little lateral movement and more often than not simply slugged his way to victory, his defense however was never that great. I rate him a (6)

Mosley- In his prime he had tremendous hand speed and foot work, however his defense was not always great,he knew how to fight in open spaces but often got in trouble when cornered his great speed covered a lot of his flaws but as he got older and the speed lessened the flaws became apparent, he has great body movement and knows how to throw deadly combination however while he is great at dishing damage he has not always been good at receiving damage himself, Cotto proved this in their fight. I rate him an (8)

Cotto- Miguel has a lot flaws but people are too caught up in the band wagon to notice them, he got knocked down by lesser boxers and often left himself open, he has a habit of trading punches with his opponents instead of trying to hit with out getting hit, he relies on power and stamina to win a lot of his fights but against a technical master he might be in trouble i rate him a (7)

Juan Manuel marquez- He is a great boxer to watch, he is extremely sound technically and makes very few mistakes in the ring, I think he was the better boxer against Pac Man in both fights and exposed a lot (if not all) of manny's weaknesses, he is very defensive but equally good offensively however he is not perfect, a lot of times he got hit by Pacquiao when he could have avoided it and in both fights he had a hard time dealing with Pac man's powerful flurries, however I think he one of the best boxers we have today at the lighter weights i rate him a (9)

Manny Pacquiao- He is a hero in the philippines and deserves a lot praise,he is a warrior and one tough boxer but his defense is not great, in both fights with JMM he had problems and he could have easily lost, he relies a lot on power and pressure but does this at the expense of elusiveness. His style of boxing is very exciting but not always very safe and while it might work for him at the lighter weights he will face difficulties if he moved up in weight class where he will no longer be the hardest hitter in the ring

glen Johnson- he is one of the best light heavy weights we have today and deserves to be respected, he has great power and stamina as well as a granite chin, he is a tough opponent but he has a tendency to get hit when he shouldn't he leaves himself exposed relying more on his endurance than defense and that has always been used against him in the score cards, I think he is a great boxer but technically there is a lot of improvement he could make on his defense I rate him a (7)

Chad Dawson- people call him the future of the light heavy weight division, a gifted athlete with great speed and determination he is considered by many to be the best at the moment but he has a lot flaws, he throws great combinations and has great speed however his foot work is slow and often stays in one spot too long moreover his chin is not that great and that could be a huge problem for him in the future i rate him a (7)

Floyd Mayweather Jr.- The current pound for pound king, he is hated by many but respected by all, between the 140 and 130 weight divisions he could easily be considered a god, he is technically superior to almost all the boxers out there today (if not all), he has great speed,a good chin, and  almost automatic counter punching ability, since he moved up in weight his power has gone down but at the lighter weights he was simply unbeatable, his ability to adapt his style to that of his opponents is impressive and his foot work is underrated, unfortunately his style does not always please the casual boxing fans but to those who know boxing and understand it, he is always a pleasure to watch, he perfected the shoulder roll and his defense is simply top class (he could dodge and block flurries in a phone booth) from a technical stand point one could say that his game is almost perfect (not as good as willy pep but very close),however in the higher weight classes he finds himself relying heavily on his technical ability and lacks power and many question his dominance at welter weight, however from junior welter weight down, he is truly the best pound for pound fighter in the world. I rate him a (10) however I consider Willy Pep to be the best defensive fighter i have ever seen.
