Question:

How would you reword this sentence?

I'm trying to reword this sentence so that I can say that Tim O'Brien (the author) was a narrator after the war. I would like to keep the majority of the sentence the same until the third comma (as a character).

I'm asking this because I think the very last 8 words seem ambiguous and odd.

Here's the sentence:

A collection of short stories, The Things They Carried is about a platoon of American soldiers, including Tim O’Brien as a character, during the war and the author as a narrator post-war.

  1. Tim O'Brien wrote The Things They Carried, a semi-autobiographical collection of short stories about a platoon of American soldiers. O'Brien is one of the soldiers in the third person account of the war and acts as the narrator post-war.

  2. ...including Tim O'Brien who appears as both a character in the stories and the narrator/author conveying the stories after war have ended.
