How would you separate two dogs?

TALLY says her little 7 pound chi is getting squashed by a 45 pound bull dog what should she do

Apparently I told the person asking the question that she's doing all the wrong things and none of the right things and she throws a hissy fit. All the other answers are great about being polite and tell them not to bring their dog over - isn't that common sense that you don't need advice for? if you want to do it yourself then u address the bull dog, you never ever pick up a dog to separate it from other dogs, this makes the dog the ultimate target - and if TALLY can't accept advice then don't ask questions here on Y!A -

So let me ask you guys - if you have a small dogs being chased by a larger dog or the larger dog is even sitting on ur dog what would you do?

My opinion is to stop the larger dog before it even gets to the point of sitting ontop of ur dog by addressing the behavior and blocking the dog from it's obsession - apparently TALLY can't see this.

While I agree the bulldog needs to be blocked and stopped before it gets to the chi, it's ultimately the owners of the bulldog who are responsible for controlling their dog.  Since they seem to be totally oblivious to what's going on here and the damage their out of control dog can do, this dog should stay at home.  Period.  And they should be told that straight out.  

If a 45 pound dog was going after or sitting on my 7 pound dog, I'd be stepping in and taking that dog out before it got to that point.  I would never allow my tiny dog to be terrorized.  And I don't agree that you're teaching the chi that if he squeals, mama'll be there for him.  It's your job to protect your dog.  My greyhounds would certainly never squeal if some loose dog came after them but I'd never stand there and let them be attacked, either.  That's ridiculous!

I agree.  Until you know if the dogs play well together, you should monitor them.  I have three GSD's and a boston terrier.  They love to play with each other and wrestle, but at times can get a little rough with the boston.  I just "clear my throat" and they stop.  It's funny, because the boston is the one that starts it, but she can't back it up :)  It sounds like she isn't in control of her dogs, the bull dog doesn't understand that she is in charge.
