    Step one, turn it into an equation.  You have to make it equal to something.  In this case, I assume 0 (zero).  So...

    2xy-x=0 is the same at 2xy=x

    2y=1 (or X/X, which is 1)

    y=1/2

    Now plug is a number for X to check, like 5.

    2*5*(1/2)-5 should equal 0.

    10*(1/2)-5 does in fact equal 0.
