  1. m= -4

    or/and

    m=4

    those lines mean absolute value and the answers must be positive

    sorry if its confusing

  2. You know  how squaring a square root cancel each other, and how dividing cancels a multiplication, and all those cases? Well, in your problem a plus or minus sign cancels the absolute value, and you end up with m=+4 or m=-4.

    Why? Well, you konw that an absolute value is always positive; you are given the value of an absolute value, so the value (m) can either be positive or negative four, because if you take either of those absolute values, your result is 4.

    Real numbers are all number that are not imaginary (that don't have an "i" beside them). This includes irrational numbers (pi, e),rational numbers (3/4, 2/2, fractions) integers (... -1, 0,1,2,3...), just any number in the number line. I hope this helps :)
