Most people are not fully aware, I know I wasn't, how would you educate people about the inhumane treatment of farm animals and persuade them to support a more humane way?

10 ANSWERS

  1. go to the store to the meat dept. and strike up a conversation with everyone you see then they will tell people.

  2. Do speeches in schools.

Support local food production.  By making this stronger, you will help diminish dependency on factory food.

  3. It is receiving more attention these days and if you look in your market you will see products that represent the movement to a more sensable and sensative agriculture. The best message is for you to do the right thing and talk to as many as is possible. Obviously many do not realize that factory farms and animal brutality gives them the daily foods they need. They don't see the extent. From a dietary standpoint all that animal meat and dairy is really not very good for the body and if we all made the decision to eat properly, much of that problem would just dissappear for that reason alone. The meat industry and dairy industry "push" poor dietary decisions (see those advertisments on the "boob tube") while our health care system pushes for good and enlightened diet. Meat should be at most once a week and that should not be red meat. Anyone that understands diet knows that is just not the best idea given all the vegetable sources of protein. One needs to be educated in how to eat to understand that concept. Athletes who are vegetarian are just as strong and have just as much muscle mass as a meat eater. Dairy should be equally as limited with cheese being a great and tasty way to good protein. Many vegetarians don't even eat that but it is far better than a burger. When the meat/ dairy industry is further reduced by healthy diet considerations then the last of the veal industry will go. Anyone that eats veal is either grossly stupid when it comes to animal abuse or they should be jailed with the producers of veal. If you out there don't know what I mean then you need to look it up. There is nothing wrong with meats and dairy in limited quantities and from sources that allow our fellow animals a kind and considerate existance, keeping in mind that without them our farms would not be the wonderful places they are (or should be). We ask a lot of our animals and they at least deserve consideration. If you make your living factory farming animals then I'm sorry if you feel insulted but you should find another job. You can not use the response or mitigate your existance because you feel you are feeding the world. Animal factory farming is a waste of resources as all that land could grow so much more plant based foods, on an order of 7 to 1. No we do not need all that leather either and we don't need all the waste that fouls our water. A limited and friendly farm environment will provide all we need.

So in short, the best way to get people moving is to tell them they will live longer by not eating all that factory meat and dairy, to limit their intake, support friendly farming, and buy local and organic. Better yet, save money and have a nice garden and as one grows with their garden, education comes as a bonus. The environment will improve and we will live longer and be happier.

  4. I've seen much wisdom here so far between local grown,  most local growers don't have the means for a big comercial operation.  So they just put their stock out to pasture.

I also saw something about the whole story,  much wisdom there because generally if left to there own devices animals will fight over dominace boredom ecet. that or they can get hurt like was said.   Taging is also verry neccisary not only nessisary but legally mandated

no matter how you slice it keeping another wether its a dog, cat, heffeir, chicken;  free range comerical organic or otherwise takes their destiny out of there own hands.

and is there fore somewhat wrong

  5. help promote local products.  Explain to people about CSA's and check out "The Untold Story of Milk" by Ron Schmid for how we are repeating history.  You might also  want to check out the websites below for more information on the nutritional benefits of traditionally raised foods.

  6. While there are "bad apples" in every profession, bear in mind that mistreating and harming animals is counter productive to making a profit.  Also keep in mind that you may not know the entire story.

For instance, my mother "disbuds" her goat kids at 7-10 days of age with a dehorning iron.  It's a red hot object that burns a nickle sized ring around the horn button.  Sure, the poor little guys cry and squawk, but in 15 mintues they're up and playing again.  If not dehorned, goats are notorious for sticking their heads into places in which they cannot remove them since the horns work like a fishhook.  You then have an animal that stands in the hot sun all day until it dies of thirst or a predator rips its stomach and intestines out while it's still alive and unable to flee.

My mom has also had horned does bash into the side of a pregnant doe for no reason other than they have horns and the unlucky one doesn't.  On several occasions, the victim later miscarried and aborted her kids.

Mature bucks fighting can break off a horn and they can literally bleed to death if you don't sprinkle a clotting agent into the wound.  Since their horns attach to their sinuses, every time they breath, their breath blows blood out the hollow end of the broken off horn.

So yes, burning the little kids horns is a painful experience, although a short lived one.  If you ask me, it's much preferable to being disemboweled by a coyote while trapped and still alive.

  7. In many ways i agree with you obn how we need to make a humane way for farm animals, somtimes i talk to my parents about it and debate but i have to get it out to the community. You could tell your school about it at an assembally, but to make a change u could send a mature letter to farming factories be strong and safisticated so you catch their attention and list small and big changes they could make. Just remember to stand your ground and get your opinions out there so you can make a change!!! Hope I helped:)))

  8. newspaper, internet, and simply just tell people

  9. posters and internet also tv newspapers or magazines

  10. Photographs of the effects with information next to it is best I think.

On chickens, they get marks made from ammonia accumilations.

A picture of the burns and information about it is a powerfull message.

But must have the statistic of the extensiviness.

Such information needs to be a verified fact with a lot of evidence in a scientific and conscise way as possible, otherwise people will dismiss it as a one off case you saw.

Construct detialed information about this, like you were written a scientific artical or making an indepth documentary.
