  1. melah Has a great answer. The only thing I would add is finding a roper to help you to work on this with you, and give you pointers. To properly train a good roping horse it would require a much more in depth answer than what I could provide on here. Luck

  2. The first thing you have to do is make sure your horse can neck rein, and knows leads well. Practice using only one hand to rein your horse.

TO GET THE HORSE USED TO THE ROPE:

First thing you need to do is get the rope out and rub it all over the horse, sack them out is what you call it when something is rubbed all over the horse.

Then you should unravel the rope and sack the horse out again.

Next you should rope your horse (good target practice! lol) DO NOT make your horse run while you are doing this. you are trying to make your horse as used to the rope as you can.

After you rope the horse, get on the horse and sack the horse out with the rope again. then start trying to rope targets.

TO GET THE HORSE TO DO THE ROPING MOVES:

CUTTING CUTTING and more CUTTING!!!! The more time you get up close and personal with those cows, the better!! so practice cutting with your horse to get him to listen to you and where you want him to go when you want him to do it.

THEN you start roping off your horse. =]

    GOOD LUCK!
