If you were an alcoholic, lets just say if you were. How would you go about changing to help, or is it that easy?

What if you have been drinkinf for over 20 years everyday, how would you suggest changing ones habbits to help him stop?

  1. I would move to Saudi Arabia, where there is no alcohol and you can go to jail for possessing it.  Of course, they won't let you in if you're not a Muslim, so you may have to change religions as well...

That's a joke, of course, but it alludes to an important point: the key to getting and staying sober is to stay away from drinking, stay away from people who are drinking, and stay away from things that make you want to drink.  All the willpower in the world won't help you if you spend all your time around friends who drink responsibly, because sooner or later you'll be tempted to drink again.

Doing this will make you a real drag to whatever friends you used to go drinking with before, but are you going sober so you can be the life of the party, or to keep yourself healthy?

  2. hmm..interesting iv actually been thinking of that recently i drink every day  & really want to stop but then i find a excuse to have 1 quick drink next thing i know I'm waking up to a new day.. so when u choose a best answer id really love to hear it (if there is a serious 1) unlike those idiots above?

  3. Take it one day at a time - telling yourself that "you'll never drink again" will defeat you in the end. There are ways to drink in moderation, you just have to have the will power! I used to drink wine every night with dinner or with friends; the main reason I personally cut back was b/c of the weight gain; now I just drink a couple of glasses on Friday & Saturday night (not to mention I feel great b/c I have more energy & lost the weight!) Also, make sure you have plenty to keep you busy - a lot of people drink when they are bored.
