How would you summarize the Black Legend?

It's the Spanish name (coined in 1914) for the mis-portrayal of Spanish history as cruel and inhuman in their treatment of others in the New World and the Inquisition.

An example would be the Tower of London displaying torture instruments  in the museum and labeling them as from the Spanish Armada.  More recently, they have been corrected to say that they are, indeed, English torture implements.

"The White Legend" is the effort of Spanish to counter this.  In the above example, successfully.
